"A Process, Processing The Process."

Mixed Media installation.

Three cameras where set up to capture me creating my animation. Showing the process of how it is done.

The animation created for this process is in video.

I found the process just as important as the final piece. My installation invites you into my world and ways of working, something that is not seen traditionally in exhibitions.

Its just human nature

An installation piece about the destruction of nature. As you walk into the room you are greeted by large friendly looking trees, they represent nature, as you look to your left you can see plenty of smaller tree stumps.
Next to all the stumps in a production line surrounded by little men working and large diggers. the production line leads to a road which loops over to a city.
The city's we create is now the modern forest however it only gives off pollution and toxic waste which is harmful. The natural forests give human kind the oxygen we need to live. so why do we have such little respect to our surrounding environment when it is keeping us alive?
Self destructive mankind.
Have a look in videos to see the animated version of this piece.

Now UV see now UV don't

This project was to show the different ways in which people see the world and how we choose to ignore certain issues or block them instead of acting upon them.

I used a ultra violet pen so only under a certain light could you see these thoughts and the writing. This represents people choosing to see the issues and problems around them weather that is global warming or poverty or any issues within this problematic world today.

Winter show.

My art is a personal response to the contemporary world and popular culture. Recently my work has been focusing on the destruction of nature by mankind and climate change. I am interested in human response. The way different people respond in different ways to certain types of work. From a previous project ‘The Rebirth of Trees’ from my observations I found that a lot of people are unaware or there is just a lack of care about the environment around them. As a consumer culture we tend to solely focus on our image and ourselves. There is a lack of care for our surrounding environments and those around us. This may occur because we do not want to face reality. Or our own ignorance and selfish behaviour will destroy us all. “As human beings we are programmed to respond to threats that are simple and short term. We are not programmed to respond to threats that are complex and long term.” (http://www.21stcenturyleader.co.uk/most_people_ignore/)

This particular series of work is about how most of us as a human society take such lack of care about the destruction to our natural surrounds and climate change. These pieces are based on that humans are unable to plan more than thirty years ahead of our selves. There are very few who can. So even if we are aware of the changes we choose to ignore them and hide them away. My human figures are submerged into walls or the floors this represents how we our hiding these problems away and choosing to ignore them. However it is a serious issue that could be dealt with a lot better as one whole human race.

This was a lot of fun carrying down the street you would surprised the different sort of reactions you get carrying a headless man down the street.
I still need to install these pieces in the streets. Keep checking for more pictures coming soon...

This was taken on the 20th day of the project 30/11/2009. The puddle is back again submerging the shrubs under water. I have been documenting this project, watching the environment change, the shrubs adapting to its surrounding environment, how people have reacted to it and see the card start to deteriorate. This has been an interesting project to be involved with. I feel that this concept and idea can be developed loads and built upon to create more work.

Some are still remaining however they are not as noticeable as they originally were. I think this project could be developed and have high potentials. I feel that the plants need to be lager and more organic and plant shaped however I had the idea and just went with it. This was a real good experience and was great fun documenting it too. This will be re worked and hopefully soon some larger more exciting pieces will be coming your way soon.

This was taken on the 20/11/2009 as you can see the puddle has started to dry up. some of the shrubs have fallen over however there are still many that are left standing. The shrubs ave now been completely emerged into its surrounding area. Some children and their parent was watching me take pictures of the trees. They were admiring them. as they had been up for a few days they must have seen them a few times back and forth from school. “You must have been busy” commented the parent. The child how “did you make them?” the children seem quite interested as if they wanted to create some for themselves. Their parents even said to the children “shall we make some at home and plant them in the garden?” The parent was interested in what this project was about and if they would deteriorate in to the ground. Documentation will continue.

Two days later the rain continues to fall and covers the card shrubs in a deeper puddle of muddy water. Some of the pieces being completely submerged into the water.

Wednesday 3 February 2010

This was taken on the 14/11/2009 four days into the installation piece. This is when the shrubs really started to become part of the nature and was no longer just card. Please note that these posts for this project are not on the days of when the photos were taken the project stated on the 10/11/2009 and is still on going.

Friday 1 January 2010

At first i felt the shrubs and plants did not fit in with the environment straight away. In its own way that was good as the card plants stood out and people were more aware of them. After a few months once the shapes lost the straight cut end and became soggy I felt they became part of its environment and was no longer a material heavily used by the industrial world it was back in its original environment. These images can be seen above.

Re-birth Of Trees

This is my first installation piece outside. To work out in the natural environment is an influence that has come from graffiti artists. They take what materials they have and apply them to the streets weather its spray, paste or installations the work interacts with its environment. For this piece to work i had to create plenty of tree shrubs made of card. I then went out in the morning to plant them.

This piece is about giving back to mother nature what was originally taken. Some people believe that there is a balance. Even thought there is a fear of global warming others believe it will just simply balance its self out naturally. this piece is not just about giving back to mother nature it is about the destruction of nature caused by mankind. As a race mankind has caused a lot of destruction. We are like a disease or parasite. We just take all natural resources without thinking of the consequences. If we are not careful as a race we will cause the destruction of ourselves as well as the surrounding environment. Trees are our main source of oxygen and with them using carbon dioxide we would soon suffocate. Yet we continue in our self destructive ways.
